What is a good laptop for college work, basic programming, and can run most games smoothly? I am looking into the HP envy 14 beats edition because it looks beautiful, has decent specifications, and is not too bulky. What other laptops are out there? No I will not buy a mac. What is a good laptop for maximum $1300?

A laptop from Acer, Toshiba, or Sony would be your best bet. HP is one of the worst in reliability. There is an extremely similar one that Toshiba has that is perfect for gaming, music, photos, etc. It is a smidge thicker than the HP Envy Series, but still looks sweet. The link is below. It starts @ $1,229.
While your at the toshiba site, i recommend the satellite models. For gaming, an Intel Core i5 or higher is best. i3 will get your computer running slowly quicker than you think.

Ignore the dick suggesting you buy a Mac. I honestly don't know WHY that would be a good choice; they are such poor value for money!
I would go with Acer, Samsung, Sony, or HP. If you want good gaming power, I'd recommend Alienware too, but I don't know if your budget would stretch far enough for a good one.
I GOT A Toshiba, windows 7, home office 2007, algebra solve, calculus and graphing solve....its fast and great. cost was 495.00 best buy.
Mac is your best bet but since you wont buy one i would get a ainwear
