Why is my laptop battery loosing charge over night?

I have an Envy 14 with an 8-cell Battery. I have it plugged in all day and when I go to sleep I put it to Hibernate which I always thought never used any battery. But in the morning when I turn the laptop on, it says 94% remaining (sometimes more, sometimes less). Is my battery bad or does hibernate use power?Why is my laptop battery loosing charge over night?
Hibernate doesn't use any battery, as you thought. It moves your RAM to your hard drive so it can be restored exactly how you left it. If your battery is going down, it could be a battery problem or a hardware problem (something still sipping the juice while it is off) unfortunately, solving that is going to be very hard yourself, and would probably just be easiest to send it in under warranty. Sorry :(



You may at least try to unplug it at night to see if it still loses battery, and do some research to see if other Envy 14 owners have noticed that too.
All rechargeable batteries eventually lose their capacity. Depending on how many times you've charged/discharged your current battery a 94% charge may be the best that it can hold now.



I would look around online for a replacement battery.

The other person who said temperature changes can effect a battery's output is correct. Some battery types (Lithium-Ion in particular, from what I've read) can lose charge when they heat up. If your laptop's battery is particularly warm in the morning this may be your issue.Why is my laptop battery loosing charge over night?
I mean, putting it on hibernate doesn't mean its not burning any energy. It just means its saving a lot more than if it wasn't on hibernate. If you charged it to 100% and left it on overnight and its at 94%, then thats pretty good already. There is nothing wrong with your laptop. Its perfectly fine.
Im pretty sure the battery is fine, if it is not old. Hibernation should NOT use power. All in all... I think the battery is changing temperature overnight, causing it to look discharged. Especially for something minor like 96%.
Hibernate is a LOW power use setting it will still use power though very small amounts so your battery is fine and I would not be worried about this small drop in power.

Hibernate uses some power

OFF uses nothing

Hibernate shouldn't use power though on older machines the battery's aren't very good at holding a charge and so deplete faster and even while powered off.
