Will the hp envy 14 handle gaming and college?

I've been researching laptops a lot and i know my stuff really well and am looking at getting a laptop. First I'd be using the laptop for gaming mostly world of warcraft and college. I am currently a junior in high school and am wondering if I should wait until senior year to get one because new technology is always coming out. Right now i want to get the HP envy 14 with an upgrade to the i5 processor. First will this laptop be able to handle gaming with these specs

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-460M Dual Core Processor (2.53 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz

1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI

4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)

500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection

14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768)

From the research that I've done it seems like this is an extremely good system and i can get it at 950$ with the student discount. So should i get this now so i can play cataclysm in time of its release or wait until next year because it has to last me till im through with college which will be 5 years so im just wondering if it will last me that long and if it won't be too outdated. thanks. Will the hp envy 14 handle gaming and college?
Yes, that's pretty solid and balanced

CPU - Very good

GPU - 5650 Radeon is pretty good

4 GB DDR3 - Good, standard

HD - 500 GB 7200 RPM Excellent

Screen - Decent, Standard. It sucks though that most screens come with that resolution these days. I preferred the 15 inch laptops with the 1440 x 900
I have a few that I would recommend and they have great price tags:

HP Envy 14-1160se Beats Edition 14.5-Inch Black Laptop PC - Up to 6.5 Hours of Battery Life

*Intel Core i5-460M Processor N950 (2.53GHz); 4GB DDR3 SDRAM memory (2 x 2GB) (expandable to 8GB); 640GB (7200 RPM) Serial ATA hard drive; Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

*14.5 Inch diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366 x 768), ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 switchable graphics with 1GB dedicated DDR3 memory up to 2714MB total graphics memory

*External Ports: 2-in-1 memory card reader; 3 USB 2.0 (3rd port shared with eSATA); 1 HDMI; 1 RJ -45 (LAN); 1 Headphone-out/Microphone-in combo jack (compatible with 3.5mm 4-conductor jack with stereo audio and mono mic)

You would be able to play games with this laptop due to it's Dual Core processor and ATI 5650 Graphics Card. It is good, but you can get better for the price or even the SAME THING for a lower price, please look at these:

This is how much all those things SHOULD cost you. And I'm even comparing it with that HP Envy too on the far right.

Now, heres what you're actually supposed to get for that $950 - $999 price range.

These are SO much better. Considering some have the ATI 5730 and most have an Intel Core i7( One has a AMD Phenom Quad Core ). I'll rank them on performance. 1 Being Most Recommended to 5 Being Least Recommended but still a good choice.

1. ASUS N61 Series N61JQ-XV1 16"

2. lenovo IdeaPad Y560(0646-54U) 15.6"

3. ASUS N52DA-X1 15.6"

4. lenovo IdeaPad Y560(0646-2EU) 15.6" %26lt;---- Lowest Price. Awesome Deal.

5. Acer Aspire AS7745G-9823 17.3" %26lt;---- May have a huge screen. But it has sucky battery life.

So, what do you think. It depends on if you want to keep the same internal components as the HP Envy except for a lower price. Go with One of the Two from the first link. But, if you don't mind spending the same price as the HP Envy but want more. Go with One from the second link.

As for the 5 years, I dunno. All laptops can last that long it would as you said, be extremely outdated. Longest I've owned a laptop was 3 and a half years until I decided to toss it. Any more questions? Glad to help.
