Macs can be better at times, there less prone to viruses, all Mac books have cd/dvd drives except for the Mac book air. Macs do get expensive they start at about a thousand for some what low specs 13.3 inch screen (2Gb of Ram) It also has a very small amount of storage for someone who loces music being only 64GB

You can also buy an external cd/dvd drive for the macbook air that connects through USB. One plus to getting a mac is the battery life on a mac book you can get up to 8-9 on a single charge.

The HP Envy 14 is a good option having a intel i3 Dual Core, 14.5 inch screen, 4gb of ram, 1gb ati dedicated video ram, CD/DVD drive. Base Price ($999.99)

The HP Pavillion Dv7t this is a bit cheaper then the envy 14 by 50 bucks, it has and 17 inch screen, an intel i5 Dual Core Processor, 4Gb of ram, 512 Ati Graphics.

The HP Pavillion Dv7t is overall the best pc option, it has an 17inch screen, a bit faster processor then both of the other options, Bigger Hard Drive, the only draw back is less graphics memory, (but is fine if your not planning on doing very much gaming its fine for just listening to music.

What i would recommend you do is custom order the HP Pavillion Dv7t from HP.com, that way you can customize it the way you want it. You can pretty much upgrade anything you want. When you custom order the Dv7t you also get a free upgrade to 6GB of ram and a 640GB hard drive. ( Better Then You Would Find In a Store).

All in all its your decision, For some one without a budget a mac is the way to go, for about $1600 you can get a 13" Mac Book Air that's less powerful then the base HP Dv7t at $950.Which laptop to get: Macbook air, hp envy 14 or hp pavillion dv7t? which to get?
I would most definitely go with the Macbook Air.

The quality on Mac's is great. You can get a cd drive for the Macbook Air from Apple. Its relatively small and it connects via usb to your macbook air. The Macbook Air also has no hard drive, but instead has a solid state drive. It works pretty much the same except their are no moving parts so there is less risk of something happening since it uses flash memory. The only drawback to flash memory is that it has been discovered that over time the performance of flash memory can actually decrease through use. However, it is still faster than normal memory and cannot be damaged nearly as easily by you dropping the laptop or anything like that.

As far as the HP computers go, I honestly can't recommend them. Unfortunately the reliability and quality of HP computers has decreased greatly in recent years and they have one the highest laptop hardware malfunction rates of any brand.

My overall advice would be to go with the mac. I think you will be way more satisfied in the future.
