Define Students.... as in High school students, or College Students... what?
You list some pricy choices... which seems to imply you miss the point entirely of how much computer a "student" would need.
Let's assume you mean High School Student. Although one might WANT an awesome gaming machine they can tote around with them, what they NEED is entirely different. High School Students would NEED a portable device with a good battery life, that would allow them to surf the internet to do research, write papers and make presentations, and occasionally watch movies and listen to music. Guess what? Cheap $250 netbooks will do all of that. So, all a High School student NEEDS is a Netbook. An Acer Aspire One or an Asus Eee PC would be fine.
Now, don't be feeling like you gotta edit your question and add a list of specific things that you would want to be doing with the laptop. That's all quite irrelevant, since you asked what is a good laptop for a STUDENT... you didn't ask what a good laptop would be for a specific student who is going to school for specific subjects.
A College student might have more use for a DVD player and burner, so a Netbook probably wouldn't suffice.... unless they got a Netbook with an external optical drive. But... the rest is still the same, and nothing as expensive as you have listed is REQUIRED by students.
If you are looking for someone to make an argument for you, that you can use to get a parent to buy one of those laptops for you because you are a student, good luck. Why? Because all three of those laptops are far more than the Average Student would need.
Macbook Airs are really light and durable, but some question how good they really are. Personally, I've never had a problem with them. Macbook Pros are good if you're doing a lot of graphics and/or gaming. You can get a student version of Microsoft office for a cheaper price than the regular, or you can use OpenOffice, which is free and essentially the same thing, and it transfers Microsoft documents. What is a good laptop for students?
Documents made on a Mac will also be viewable on a Pc. There are simply more hoops to jump through, and certainly more applications involved. Mac users can use NeoOffice to create Open Office compatible documents -- and these documents can be viewed on ANY operating system.
The Macbook air is light, somewhat durable, but is very expensive and for the price you pay you also don't get very fast hardware.
The Macbook Pro comes in the same budget range but it features dedicated graphics, has more USB ports, Thunderbolt, and a lot more connectivity options.
There are other options like a Lenovo X series Thinkpad, which are built to be thin and also come with touchscreens, and they are built to be even tougher than a Macbook (Magnesium rollcage).
%26gt;. I don't want to get HP because they can get viruses easily
The brand of the laptop has nothing to do with how likely it is to get infections. If you're talking about Windows versus Apple OSX, then we're getting somewhere.
It is not correct to say that Windows is more vulnerable to infections than OSX, in fact both OS's have their own strengths and weaknesses. Because OSX has a much smaller share of the operating system market, there are less viruses / malware in the wild that target OSX -- however that number is growing.
There are also different types of threats that are not malware-based. For example, if someone hacks into your webmail account, or steals your private passwords from your wireless network, your security will still be compromised regardless of which operating system you use.
Using OSX doesn't lower your chances of getting phished or scammed either, because those are "social" hacks which have nothing to do with software.
Sure, if you're not computer savvy, get a Mac, since OSX has a much smaller target audience it is also less likely to get infected by a virus. However, it is wrong to say that Windows is more vulnerable than Apple OSX, because a computer illiterate user is also just as likely to get malware or hacked on either system.
