Between the M14X, Macbook Pro 15, XPS 14z and Envy 14, which one should I go for?

My subjects in university focuses more towards typing, so a good keyboard is needed. I want a decent 3 hour battery life when surfing at full brightness. I'd rather not use peripherals, so a good speaker and touchpad is preferred. During my spare time, I'll be doing some 3D visual editing and also create intensive game mods. For games, I'll be playing Source games mostly. I'll be watching videos and make some light picture editing, so a decent TN panel is the minimum. I prefer Nvidia's Optimus as it's less of a hassle, unless AMD releases BACON to make it a tie. I'll be using mainly Windows 7, so how does the Macbook Pro fare to the competition under Boot Camp? Also, I need a strong and reliable wireless connection. Oh, and a 256 GB storage is the minimum.Between the M14X, Macbook Pro 15, XPS 14z and Envy 14, which one should I go for?
If you mainly use Microsoft Windows, purchasing a Mac is a waste of money. Mac OS X, the operating system of every Mac, is designed especially for the Mac. Using Microsoft Windows as a primary operating system on a Mac makes the price you have paid for your Mac a waste of money. Either use Mac OS X and occasionally use Microsoft Windows, or purchase a normal laptop and run Microsoft Windows as your primary operating system. As for which normal laptop to purchase, simply compare the specifications and choose that laptop which matches with your needs.

If it were me, I'd get the HP Envy. The Macbook Air is garbage and easily the worst Macbook.Which laptop to get: Macbook air, hp envy 14 or hp pavillion dv7t? which to get?

Macs can be better at times, there less prone to viruses, all Mac books have cd/dvd drives except for the Mac book air. Macs do get expensive they start at about a thousand for some what low specs 13.3 inch screen (2Gb of Ram) It also has a very small amount of storage for someone who loces music being only 64GB

You can also buy an external cd/dvd drive for the macbook air that connects through USB. One plus to getting a mac is the battery life on a mac book you can get up to 8-9 on a single charge.

The HP Envy 14 is a good option having a intel i3 Dual Core, 14.5 inch screen, 4gb of ram, 1gb ati dedicated video ram, CD/DVD drive. Base Price ($999.99)

The HP Pavillion Dv7t this is a bit cheaper then the envy 14 by 50 bucks, it has and 17 inch screen, an intel i5 Dual Core Processor, 4Gb of ram, 512 Ati Graphics.

The HP Pavillion Dv7t is overall the best pc option, it has an 17inch screen, a bit faster processor then both of the other options, Bigger Hard Drive, the only draw back is less graphics memory, (but is fine if your not planning on doing very much gaming its fine for just listening to music.

What i would recommend you do is custom order the HP Pavillion Dv7t from HP.com, that way you can customize it the way you want it. You can pretty much upgrade anything you want. When you custom order the Dv7t you also get a free upgrade to 6GB of ram and a 640GB hard drive. ( Better Then You Would Find In a Store).

All in all its your decision, For some one without a budget a mac is the way to go, for about $1600 you can get a 13" Mac Book Air that's less powerful then the base HP Dv7t at $950.Which laptop to get: Macbook air, hp envy 14 or hp pavillion dv7t? which to get?
I would most definitely go with the Macbook Air.

The quality on Mac's is great. You can get a cd drive for the Macbook Air from Apple. Its relatively small and it connects via usb to your macbook air. The Macbook Air also has no hard drive, but instead has a solid state drive. It works pretty much the same except their are no moving parts so there is less risk of something happening since it uses flash memory. The only drawback to flash memory is that it has been discovered that over time the performance of flash memory can actually decrease through use. However, it is still faster than normal memory and cannot be damaged nearly as easily by you dropping the laptop or anything like that.

As far as the HP computers go, I honestly can't recommend them. Unfortunately the reliability and quality of HP computers has decreased greatly in recent years and they have one the highest laptop hardware malfunction rates of any brand.

My overall advice would be to go with the mac. I think you will be way more satisfied in the future.

MacBook Pro 13" or HP Envy 14-1110nr 14.5" for college?

I'll be a sport and recreation management major so I don't have to worry about anything specifically too much.

I'll be using it to write papers, listen to music, go on the Internet, stuff like that. I already bought Microsoft office and will be using that.

A few things that are important to me: battery life and how long the computer will last in general. I've had too many laptops that have broken far too early.

***ALSO; since I'm starting school in fall of 2011 but buying the computer this Christmas, will I still be eligible for education discounts? And will prices probably go down for holiday specials etc?

Thanks so much!MacBook Pro 13" or HP Envy 14-1110nr 14.5" for college?

Don't know much about pricing for the HP but I don't believe you can get the student discount for the Mac if your not in college yet. But if you know someone that is in college already or even a teacher in grade school, you can get it.

Apple doesn't usually give out sale prices, but on "Cyber Monday" I believe they do. Also, if your looking to save money, you can get a refurbished one directly from Apple, exactly like a new Mac except its a few hundred bucks cheaper.

The 13" MacBook Pro can get 10 hours of battery life. Thats not just a number, its been proven by professional reviewers, its real time. The HP is a nice computer, but it doesnt hold a candle to the MacBook Pro.

Enjoy your new laptop :)

Which Laptop Spec to pick? (HP Envy 14)?

Which would be better?

Going from i3 core Processor to an i5-580m, but keeping the lower res screen (1366x768), or staying with the i3 core and getting the Radiance Screen (1600x900). I've used 1366x768 for years on my current laptop, and I'm completely fine with it... but I've heard the Radiance is nice. I know it would be instantly noticeable, but in what circumstances would I really need the higher res?

Not really a gamer, and I edit music.Which Laptop Spec to pick? (HP Envy 14)?
For music you will definitely need the i5 CPU. For editing music, you need a decent CPU/Processor as it does consumer quite a lot of power. As you are mostly doing audio editing and not gaming, the high-res screen is not needed. If you are doing video editing however, you need a good screen but you need a good CPU.

How much are you paying for this computer??? You may not be getting the best deal.

If you would like, I can help you find a good computer for your needs... just add more details to this post and I will edit my answer for more details.

But if you already know that this is the PC you want, go with the CPU. the i3 is gonna be sluggish...

i think none of them has a backlit keyboard, but u can buy one of those external lights ( plugable on USB port )
no bluray drive also , but everything else you cited is available on both laptops i think.

    lil comparison :

    hp envy 14:
    -- %26gt; like the dm4 , Intel Core i5-450M -- cool ! fast enough for everything a law student would do :)
-- %26gt; ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 -- very nice for games! ( not with highest details, but it will do )
    -- %26gt; RAM : 4Gb
    BUT : 5.2 pounds = 2.35868032 kilograms and u said 2kg exactly :/
    -- %26gt; battery : (hrs:min) 4:25
    --- %26gt; slightly larger screen ( 14.5 inches )

    hp dm4 :

---- %26gt; pretty much the same BUT :
    ---- %26gt; 1.95044719 kilograms, lighter ( yeah im precise... )
---- %26gt; graphics card is a mere GMA HD , which means no recent games can be played , just some very old ones ( around 2002 ) or casual games ( diner dash for example ) -- yeah, i would choose the game option but im not you ^^
    ----- %26gt; battery : (hrs:min) 5:48
    ---- %26gt; 14 inches screen

    -----
If you a regular user, Both laptop are very nice , so dont have too much regret choosing one over the other, you might want to see both laptops at the same time to compare other aspects ( design , if it fits in another bag etc... )

Try the 15" MacBook Pro and set it up with how much you want to spend.
My Boss uses MacBook PRO 17", and i see it working good, But if you are buying and want best price, try this - it should help you find the cheapest items of any kind:- much easier than ordinary GOOGLE SEARCH but forms part of it, or yahoo / MSN search: - it's a FREE small WINDOWS app program that you can download and activate - works fast, gives ALL info %26amp; pix in one hit. Works great for me and my friends. - - http://www.myshoppinggenie.com/coupons/coupons.aspx?c=88229
Any recent model laptop should do, more memory and CPU obviously will perform better. For gaming the videocard will be important, for music I would suggest getting a decent USB interface like the M-Audio Fast Track or the Tascam US-122mkII. Laptop soundcards aren't good for music production imo. Also, if you're trying to decide between FL Studio and Ableton Live, just demo both well. I have both a end up using FL Studio Producer Edition 99% of the time, but you may like Ableton better, the choice is yours only. In case you go for FL Studio here's a link for 10% discount: https://support.image-line.com/jshop/sho鈥?/a>

I would suggest to first figure out what you need in software and hardware and then see what money is left for the laptop and what you can get for that. Then shop around for the best deal (most CPU/memory, good videocard etc).

    Good luck!

btw, FL Studio doens't run natively on Mac so if you go for Mac you'll be spending a lot more on a copy of Windows to run FL Studio in Bootcamp... I think many games, including Battlefield 2, don't run on Mac either, so I'm not sure if a Mac is a good idea for you.

  • HP Envy 14 vs. Sony Vaio EA?

The HP Envy does have better specs, with a 6 GB RAM vs. a 4 GB RAM. There's also 2.4 GHz Processor vs. a 2.26 GHz processor. Personally, I like HP laptops better, but in this case, the Sony wins. That is because the RAM and Processor speed is the only difference besides the price and size (and of course the looks).

It's your decision which one you like better. I like the looks of the HP better but the Sony is cheaper. A lot of the really good specifications of the HP are quite unnecessary considering today's computer technologies.HP Envy 14 vs. Sony Vaio EA?
Let me explain something about Sony Vaio computers. They WILL NOT give you drivers. They ONLY give you the recovery disk. That means this: When Windows 8 comes out, you'll not be able to upgrade to it, because you can't get the drivers for it. All you get is the disk that restores the Sony to it's factory settings with the version of Windows that it came with. Current computers come with Windows 7. Don't like Windows 7? Too bad. You cannot get the drivers to downgrade to Vista or XP.
The Vaio EA and HP Envy 14 are pretty similar in size, performance, and price, although the EA has a lower end GPU (Radeon 5470 HD w/ 512 MB VRAM versus Radeon 5650 HD w/ 1 GB VRAM).

hp has issued a new laptop with two models ENVY 14 1011NR and ENVY 17 1010NR each have a slightly different features. ENVY 14 has a specification using 14.5-inch screen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution LED-backlit, use the Intel Core i5 processor 2.4GHz, 6GB RAM, 500GB hard drive than that all premises are also equipped with 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 graphics switchable. While for 17 ENVY has a feature Core i7 CPU-720QM, 8GB RAM, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD5850 graphics and 640GB hard drive. This laptop to use the 17.3-inch screen with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. For the second equation in this laptop has a DVD, WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth, webcam and memory card slots. In laptop prices ENVY 14 and 17 have differences but the issue price of the company HP has not stated officially.

HP Envy 14 Hangs when playing music or videos?

There really isn't too much detail to this question. Basically, If I'm watching videos or listening to music (what the laptop is advertised to do exceptionally) my computer just kind of hangs very often. Like, say I'm on iTunes listening to music, it'll give me a little mini freeze and will resume being able to work anywhere between 5 sec-5 min later, and then sometimes it even blue screens! Watching videos is no exception. If I'm trying to watch stuff on iTunes (1st season of Torchwood in Standard Definition, to be exact), or even watching YouTube videos on occasion, my laptop will hang until the end of the video frequently (if on youtube) and will hang the video and catch up if watching Torchwood on iTunes. What can I do to fix this?HP Envy 14 Hangs when playing music or videos?
return it and get a new one call hp tech support
Still not enough details to work on your question. Try backing up all your important data and reset the computer to factory defaults.

    1. Turn on or reboot/restart the computer.

    2. Tap the F10 key repeatedly once you see the HP logo until the recovery screen appears. On some models it may be the F11 key. This must be done before your operating system begins to load. If you see the Windows logo appear on screen, you'll have to restart and try again.

    3. When the recovery screen appears, press "Next" and then "Yes" to perform a non-destructive recovery.

    4. To perform a destructive recovery, click "Advanced" and then "Yes".

    5. After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Of course you will need to reinstall your additional drivers and applications after resetting the laptop.

If the problem persists, send it to the shop. If still under warranty, take it back to the dealer.HP Envy 14 Hangs when playing music or videos?
Laptop hang issues can be a frustrating issue for the user and a tedious problem for a technician. The variety of causes for this event are staggering, but many can be diagnosed in a few simple steps.

    Peripheral Issues

USB drives, inserted before boot, will cause a hang. Remove all such devices and media (such as CDs and floppy disks) before booting your laptop.

    Software Causes

Press "F8" at boot and press "Last Known Good Configuration" to take your laptop to a previous working boot. Starting your laptop in "Safe Mode" by pressing "F8" at boot will help you check for software causes for a hanging laptop. By turning off unnecessary processes, this mode allows you to run anti-spyware and antivirus software to clear malware that hinders performance. Perform a check disk by right-clicking on your "C Drive" found in "My Computer." At the "Properties" link, press the "Tools" tab to schedule error checking. Reboot your laptop and let it perform this check.

    Hardware Causes

Verify that your RAM is seated correctly by removing it carefully from under its access door on the bottom of your laptop and reinserting it. Do not touch its gold contact points, as this may damage the memory. Download the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic software to test the integrity of the hard disk. If you have access, run a professional hardware diagnostic suite to check the motherboard and CPU. Boot with the battery removed to verify that there is not an issue with power conflicts.

    Final Considerations

Checking the "Event Viewer from Administrative Tools" located in "Control Panel" (XP only) can also shed light on potential causes. Performing a repair installation of Windows can address missing files, registry errors and corrupted system files without damaging your data. This process requires your original Windows disks but is often quite useful.

HP Envy 14 vs HP Pavilion Dv6t Quad Edition?

I was just trying to decide which laptop would be better for me. Im only going into 8th grade so I would only use it for basic purposes such as windows movie maker and photoshop. Also, im not a gamer what-so-ever so i dont care how good the gaming quality is. There are both pros and cons for both laptops so either one would really work for me. I just want to get the better buy.HP Envy 14 vs HP Pavilion Dv6t Quad Edition?
Both are great laptops, I would go with what will fit you you want a smaller and portable laptop get the Envy, but if you want bigger screen, usb 3.0 and a numeric keypad then go with the DV6tqe.

I got myself the dv6tqe a month ago, the only things that got me too the dv6t and not the envy was because the dv6tqe has 2 usb 3.0 and had better graphics option.

Both computers will be good for basic purposes, so any of the 2 will be good to run basic programs without loosing speed. Both has good memory, and processors, the only other advantage if you don't add it to the envy is that the dv6t has quad core processor while the envy has a dual core. But everything else is fine.

The Envy already includes a kinda good graphics with the price while you will want to get the 1GB 6770 on the Dv6t. On the other hand the dv6t has an option to choice a higher resolution screen (1080p anti-glare screen), mostly recommended in most forums.

I would recommend looking for 25-30% coupons I put coupons below but might not work as those might be from last weeks sale.

Another option is that you can try to see if you can get the HP academic store, but you will need a .edu email address and there's a special that you get an xbox360 for free on any purchase of $690 or more. But you have to call to order.

Hope this helps if more help please post on the details and I'll edit my post.HP Envy 14 vs HP Pavilion Dv6t Quad Edition?
I'm extremely happy I went with the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition laptop. I'm not one of those people that, when they need a new laptop, just runs to Staples and gets a crappy $400 laptop. But I'm also not one of those people who has the money to go to the apple store to get a $2000 laptop.

you can definitely play Minecraft, COD black ops might be a bit laggy, NFSHP might be okay.

1.6ghz is quite slow, but it is a quad core and your graphics card is quite good.

I'd say it can play all of them, COD maybe on medium or low graphics, but it may perform well on high or highest.

    So it is OKAY.

HP Envy 14 with an i7 processor hangs when playing videos?

So I've been having this problem on my laptop (read title of question for make), in which video playback is just absolutely TERRIBLE! Whenever I go into iTunes and try to watch something, it'll play for 5 seconds, then immediately start an on/off hang process. I know that as it stands, I don't have enough information posted for anyone to help me, but if you tell me what I have to look at and where to find it on my computer , I'll put all the info you need into the additional details.HP Envy 14 with an i7 processor hangs when playing videos?
Another thought I had is to try downloading the video onto a SDHC card and try playing the video from that source. Or if you have a DVD or Blu Ray player on your laptop, play a video there.

If it runs smoothly, then the problem is obviously not in the video card, and lies elsewhere. Most likely the video player or even your hard drive! Also try defragmenting your hard drive with Auslogic Disk Defrag.

Also how much RAM do you have? May have background silent program that is using up your RAM and slowing down your computer. If you have Mcafee that maybe slowing your computer's speed.

That's about the only other suggestion I have.

Hope you get it fixed as it sounds like a very expensive laptop!!

  • HP envy 14 beats edition i5 or i7 processor?

I am thinking about buying this laptop for general purposes like college work, some basic programming, and two games "heroes of newerth" and "league of legends". They are not very heavy games but they do require some specifications to run smoothly. This laptop will have a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 video card. It will also have 4 GB of ram. Should I upgrade the default i5 processor to an i7 for 200 dollars more? Or will the i5 be good enough for what I will be using this laptop for?HP envy 14 beats edition i5 or i7 processor?
Basic programing, college work, and basic most games will run perfectly fine on a i5 i see no reason to upgrade to a i7. Unless your planning on running 30 programs get a i7 almost all games made dont use more then 4 processing cores so a i7 would be useless and honestly $200 that money can be used for something better
if you do gaming on that laptop then pay $200 more an get core i7 but if you just browse web an stuff then stick with core i5 but if it was me then i would just get the core i7. also if you don't have any other computer in your house then just get it with core i7.

BUT THEN WAIT UNTIL NEXT MONTH BECAUSE THERE ARE GOING TO BE NEW PROCESSORS (im not trying to shout at you by the way)HP envy 14 beats edition i5 or i7 processor?
i5 will be fine thats what i have and it can easily handle school stuff aswell as a few more hardware demanding games then the two you have listed
The i5 is all anyone really needs. The i7 isn't worth the 200 bucks.

Wow, get the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition. Hands down. It has more RAM, a much larger hard drive and a better graphics card. That's important for gaming. And while the Envy 15 has a Core i7, that's an older version that only boosts to 2.8GHz, the i5 on the Envy 14 has the more powerful version of the i5. And the Envy 14 has better speakers, hence the "Beats". Personally, not as good as Asus's sonicmaster but better than nothing. The Envy 14 even has a back lit keyboard which means you can work in the dark! Wonderful. So definitely get the Envy 14 Beats Edition. No contest.Hp Envy 15 vs HP Envy 14 Beats Edition?

    Battery Life Hp Envy 14?

It depends on the configuration like any other laptop. If you want high-end specs then you'll have less battery life. If you want longer battery life then you'll need to get lower end laptops like the mac. A powerful $1600 Envy 14 will probably average around 3.5 hours. A similarly spec'd, although still underpowered, 15" mac will probably yield similar results and cost you over $1000 more!

If you turn it on and leave it without using like a mac then you'll get the advertised 7 hours. If you read Yahoo! web pages and go about doing other things then you'll get longer battery life. If you use it to game (the real kind not web-based) then you'll probably get at least 2 hours with constant use.

MacBook Pro 13 or Hp Envy 14? Why?

I haven't actually used any of these personally in daily life (have tested the macbook pro 13). But it all comes down to what you are using it for and also if you predominantly use osx or windows?

Since you are in high school, I'm gonna guess that you need long battery life, decent processor and average to good graphics (depending on your gaming habits).

Macbook has a really good battery life on the mac osx - around 8-10 hours (does poorly on windows 7 using bootcamp, roundabout 3 hours ish, maybe more if you can squeeze it).

The Hp Envy 14, I have read gives around 4 hours or so, but probably more with an extended battery or slice battery?? (used in envy13 not sure if it's used in envy 14) which adds weight. But Envy seems to have a far higher resolution screen in it (1600 x 900 - off of memory).

The envy has a far better processor options and better graphics as a previous poster said and as a student, cost is a big factor. Envy is far better in terms of "bang for buck" so to speak, but I do quite like the build quality of the macbook but I haven't personally used the envy yet so can't compare that.

So to answer your question, you need to add some details as to what your computer habits are e.g away from power source often? gaming? processor intensive tasks? outdoors?

Another option you might also look at is the Asus u30jc, long battery life (7-9 hours, internet browsing etc), i3 processor 2.26 ghz, switchable graphics (nvidia optimus - automatic switching between intel hd graphics and the nvidia one). Relatively thin with an optical drive and cost is about 899 usd.

Good luck with your search!MacBook Pro 13 or Hp Envy 14? Why?
What will you be using it for? That is the main question.MacBook Pro 13 or Hp Envy 14? Why?
Envy 14. More powerful and cheaper.

Windows 7 FTW! mac compromises on the rise.

    Larger and better display

    Larger and faster HDD

    Newer and more powerful CPU

GPU rapes the mac - Good luck playing anything good and of course good luck finding many good games when they first come out. Might as well play on-line Flash-based trashy games. Try to catch up with a 15" mac version and you can't but it will cost you at least another $1,000 more for trying.

I can tell you I just ordered an Envy 14 for college during the Thanksgiving sale because of the attractive specs. Now I can tell you that I have heard that the beats audio isn't all as amazing as they claim it to be, but it is still very crisp sounding. The main reason why I ordered it was because it was smaller, more energy efficient, has a great graphics card, large hard drive, and plenty of RAM.

If you are ever interested my second cousin works for HP and referred me to one of their affiliate websites http://hpdiscountlaptops.com

    HP Envy 14 or Macbook?

i know i know, this may sound like a wierd question, but i am curious, which one? im joining the military and i really want a laptop to last me through college and the service. I would like it to (obviously) have good reliability and good battery life, but also be able to handle some games World in Conflict, RTS games, so which one? should i go for the mac or the HP? and plz no fanboy answers i want a genuine answer please and thanks!!HP Envy 14 or Macbook?
Why even ask. Honestly unless you're going to be doing intensive image and video editing... I say go with the HP envy. It's really no competition. If you're going to play games on it, have goot batter life, and last, then go for the pc. You'll have problems trying to play some games on the mac and you'll also get considerably less powerful specs. Not being a fanboy as I own a mac and enjoy it, just telling you what I think. If I were you I wouldn't think twice.HP Envy 14 or Macbook?
macs are just confusing due to single click. bad graphics, terrible choice for gaming. but it can be left on for a while, but whats the point if u cant use it?

i just got the HP envy 14 beats edition and it is orgasmic. it is amazing. because it is a pc, it has a left and right click, specs are crazy good, but there is a problem with batteries. its supposed to be 6.5 hrs but there is a known issue trying to be solved by HP and that is there is only 2 hrs of battery life. but other than that, it is amazing. you will also enjoy music like never before. it has a built in EQ so you can adjust treble/bass to improve headphones or messed up MP3 quality of a certain song or maybe just a youtube video. a better question you could've asked was comparing 2 PC's, but between those 2... GET THE EVY, GOD DAMMIT :D

i've used both brands and for me hp is the good deal.. so i'd recommend hp but acer is not a bad brand either.. but i'd go for hp...
Acer has improved in past few years. But HP is more popular and have been consistently delivering good quality laptops.

Quite a fix you are in, I was in this fix and went for HP. Not because I could afford it, but because. I went to www.bitfang.com/laptop chose compared almost all brand laptops. And simply placed an order for the one that I liked the best and suited my price range. I selected cash as the payment option and it allowed me to close the order. After I placed the order, I got a call from them asking when I would make the payments in their bank account so that they can deliver the product. I simply said, their pricing was a bit higher and if they could consider some discounts then I could pay. Well they actually did give me a honest deal. Got my laptop delivered to my house on the very next day after I deposited cash in their HDFC account. What Laptop to Buy? Acer Aspire 4750G-2412G64Mnbb or HP Envy 14?

Two things that don't go together are personal electronic devices and water. Pure water is a poor conductor of electricity, but most water contains a considerable amount of minerals that increase the conductivity of the water and can damage electronic components. If your laptop has been damaged by water, do not turn it on until you have properly cleaned it inside and out. Even after a thorough cleaning, there is no guarantee that your laptop will function again. It all depends on the extent of the damage. A spilled glass or water bottle is apt to be less severe than full submersion. Cleaning your computer can increase the likelihood of recovery.

    Difficulty: Moderate

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    Phillips screwdriver

    Desiccant

    Dry cloths

    Distilled water

    Plastic containers

    Canned air

    1

Disconnect the power supply from your laptop and remove the battery.

    2

Completely disassemble the laptop. Refer to the service manual for your particular laptop for disassembly instructions.

    3

Wipe down any water that you notice on the components. If your laptop was submerged under water or exposed to dirty water, use a small amount of distilled water to carefully clean each component. This will help remove mineral deposits and other residue that can cause a short-circuit and seriously damage your laptop.

    4

    Dry all components off.

    5

Place your disassembled computer parts into separate containers and add some desiccant to each container. The desiccant will remove any residual water from the components. Allow the components to dry in the desiccant for at least 12 hours. Do not use a hair dryer or other heat source to dry the computer parts, as potential over-heating could subject your laptop to even greater damage.

    6

Clean off residual particles from the desiccant using a can of compressed air. Reassemble the laptop

Dell Studio XPS 16 or HP Envy 14, which is the better buy?

I hope someone out there can give me a hand. I have been trying to figure out which is the better buy between these two computers. Their primary purpose is for normal daily use (internet surfing and for university) and entertainment (music, movies, and the occasional game, i.e. Starcraft 2). The specs are as follow:

    Dell- Intel i7, 4gb ddr3, 320gb 7200 sata hard drive, 15.6 FHD WLED Display (1920x1080), and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 - 1GB.

    HP- Intel i5, 4gb ddr3, 320gb 7200 sata hard drive, 14.5" diagonal HD+ HP Radiance Infinity LED Display (1600x900), and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 - 1GB.

They both are supposed to have great sound for laptops, and both have backlit keyboard. After shipping and tax there is only a $100 difference on the two. If you have read this far and can lend me some advise then thank you.Dell Studio XPS 16 or HP Envy 14, which is the better buy?
Dell keyboard is more compact and takes us less space than the traditional keyboard. It looks nice, types well, laid out perfectly and space efficient for basic home users, business or schools. It is comfortable to use. I would recommend this for anyone upgrading their Dell desktop keyboard.

Buy Compatible Dell Laptop Keyboard from http://www.papatek.com/Dell-Keyboard/Ind鈥?/a> who offers Compatible Dell brand Keyboard wholesale, Compatible Dell Precision, Inspiron, XPS, etc with best price, 6 month warranty, and shipped fast from USA!
Well the Dell clearly has the better processor, larger screen, and better video card. So based on just the specs, go with the Dell. Of course, I'm not taking into account customer service, laptop design, etc. but you'll probably have to figure that out on your own. I prefer Dell laptops anyways so I'd go with the Dell.Dell Studio XPS 16 or HP Envy 14, which is the better buy?
The two computers are very similar. I personally would go for the Dell because it has a WLED display. WLED and LED displays are almost the same except that a WLED display uses less power than a LED display. Otherwise I'd go for the one that's $100 less.

HP Envy 14 Laptop, any good?

Would this be a decent laptop for a college student?

It's mostly going to be used for word processing, but I'm certainly going to end up using it for some light gaming, Netflix and Hulu Plus between classes. I wanted something with a mid-sized screen and decent graphics, and the Envy seems to fit.

Specs on the one I'm looking at:

    -Intel Core i5-480M Processor 2.66GHz

    -4GB DDR3

    -750GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive

-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 switchable graphics with 1024MB DDR3

Don't recommend a Mac. I need a PC for school, not a Mac.HP Envy 14 Laptop, any good?
It's definitely a solid laptop for college. Build quality is quite on par with the expensive, upper end laptop computers in the market. The specifications, size, and aesthetics are nicely balanced out.

Though I have the 1600x900 Radiance display, I feel like Envy 14 series lost a lot of its value since the Radiance Display option went out, but if you don't mind working on 1366x768 resolution instead of 1600x900 (or higher) resolution, it's definitely a laptop worth investing in.

You might be interested in knowing that HP is going to refresh the Envy 14 series with the latest Sandybridge CPUs. Also, I strongly suggest visiting notebookreview.

Macbook Pro 13 or HP Envy 14 Beats edition?

Cant decide, both cost about the same. Narrowed it down to these two since i NEED a backlit keyboard. I'll be using it for web surfing, and MS Office. Dont play much games (except for online poker sometimes)

Mac Pros; great display, great backlit keyboard, love the solid sturdy design of the body and the keyboard

Mac Cons; pricey for what u get (15" mac with the envy's specs costs more than double!!! which is why im considering the 13" for almost the same amount of money), less than adequate power? (but then again, do i NEED an i5 cpu for web surfing?)

Envy Pros; LOTS of power for the money, best build quality of any PC laptop ive seen, has a backlit keyboard (why is it so hard to find a laptop with this??!?!?!)

Envy Cons; display not as good as on the mac (like the flush glass design, but the macs resolution just looks better to me), battery life not as good as the macs, build quality is ok but not as good as the macs (has some keyboard flex whereas the macs have none)

    so which should i choose???

thanks and happy holidays to all.Macbook Pro 13 or HP Envy 14 Beats edition?
You really don't need that much power if that's all you do. The Envy is overkill for web surfing and MS Office. There's cheaper computers out there with backlit keyboards.

What about a Dell Latitude E6410? It's got a magnesium alloy chassis and it is built solid. With a 9-cell battery, battery life should be decent. As for the keyboard, backlit is an option for an additional $50, and I don't notice any flex for everyday typing (I'm typing on one right now). Also, it has a default 3-year warranty. However, the screen is going to be worse.
    http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitu鈥?/a>

EDIT: Well, the keycaps are shaped in a way where the key surfaces are rather large and the slope of the edges are very steep. It's probably similar to typing on a chiclet.Macbook Pro 13 or HP Envy 14 Beats edition?
Seen as you want to use Microsoft Office, I'd recommend the PC, as Mac's are unable to handle all the functions as well as you might hope. Like you said, for what you want to use it form, you'd get a lot better spec from the PC that you could utilise.

After doing some research on the net I found that this is one of the few laptops in market which is comparable to macbook in terms of looks. But the caveat is that its quite heavy(5.8 lbs) and the battery backup is around 2 hours with power save settings.

But the laptop is excellent in terms of heating since its very low , much better than any other laptops I have used in past.

Overall for the configuration, looks ,performance and price I have to say that it is "ENVY" of all the other laptops in market.

Well, the Envy would detroy the MBP in terms of performance. The other things are debatable.

Do you want to use Windows, or Mac OS? I'd make my decision based on that. Or performance :p

HP ENVY 14 vs. HP Pavillion dv6t Series?

I am looking into these laptops, and I am not sure what to go with! I am a big music, web browsing, and graphic design person (my major). I don't necessarily need a powerful graphics card, because my gaming is minimal... should I invest in a better processor or RAM?

If you have any other suggestions as to laptops as well, I am open to them!

P.S. My computer knowledge is adequate, so proper terminology and technical detail is appreciated!HP ENVY 14 vs. HP Pavillion dv6t Series?
First of all there is no match between these two, hp envy is much much better series very popular in market because of their shape, finishing, display, crispy sound quality, and optimum cool performance, i had dv6 a month ago but it was having heating issues so they are vulnerable to heating thus lack of performance.

My suggestion is to buy HP ENVY 14-2050SE also known as beats edition, it is very famous in envy series because of additional enhancements like extra crisp in sound and backlit keyboard.

    To find out more about it i suggest to read this actual user comment;

I have searched around for you and found it here at comparably better price:

Oh i forgot! its complete specifications are:

2nd generation Intel Core i5-2410M Processor 2.30GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.90GHz

    6GB DDR3

    750GB (7200RPM) SATA, Slot-Loading SuperMulti 8X DVD卤R/RW with Double Layer Support

    14.5" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366 x 768), Radeon HD 6630

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), 6.25 Hour Battery Life

    But still if you are leaned towards dv6 series then i will suggest you HP DV6T-2000 which is the most trustworthy and popular amongst this series with intel core i7 processor;

Problem with Envy 14 computer Synaptics?

So I love my new Envy no doubt, just got it a couple months ago. But I've been having problems with the mousepad. Sometimes the Synaptics don't seem to work. The mousepad IS on, and when I try to scroll with my two fingers, it doesn't work after a couple hours of computer work. Does anybody know why and how to fix this? Thanks!Problem with Envy 14 computer Synaptics?
Have you tried updating the drivers? If so, it's probably just the terrible driver quality of Synaptics. I have the Envy 14 myself and the trackpad is not good out of the box. I suggest reading here:

  • Hp envy 14 1200en graphics card drivers help?

Here is my problem I recently got a hp envy 1200en laptop and its been ok so far, av played some great games with no problem(FIFA 12 Black ops, GTA IV, nfs hot pursuit, assassins creed I, etc ). However some games NFS the run and Assassins Creed 2 crash some point in the game to a grey stripped lines across the screen. I was told that I need to update the graphics card drivers (ATI mobility radeon 5650) but I tried from the ATI site and it refused.

    My question:

Is the above game problem due to old drivers if not what is it?

If it is the drivers how can I update them?

PS. All above mentioned games are legit not pirared so u feel my pain and the system can handle them as its not startup crash or overheating.Hp envy 14 1200en graphics card drivers help?
The standard drivers on AMD site cannot be used for the mobility graphics cards in laptops. The way laptops are made means that each manufacturer customises hardware to their own specification.
The only graphic driver updates that you can use are those released by HP on their official support pages for exact model. If you are using the latest drivers from there already then you are stuck with them i'm afraid. It sucks but this is truth.

As to whether your problems are down to the drivers, you don;t give enough info to be sure this is the problem [although the grey lines suggest a driver problem]. It may be that your card cannot cope with the new games [the Radeon HD 5650 is not a top gaming card at all]. The minimum graphics requirements for Assassins creed 2 are given as Radeon HD 3800 series so you should be OK from that point of view: http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.p鈥?/a>Hp envy 14 1200en graphics card drivers help?
It can be a hassle trying to update mobility drivers. I tend to default to an automatic driver update tool since this will scan and locate the drivers for my system much quicker. In addition to updating your graphic driver you may need other drivers as well. Some older drivers can conflict with eachother and cause all sorts of problems. Go to http://www.pcdriverupdate.com and get the driver scan. Install and run the scan and in a few minutes you should get a full driver report. From there you can update the drivers quickly.

I hope this helps. Good luck with the games.

HP Envy 14 or Macbook Pro 13"?

I think I'm leaning towards the envy but I just have one question. When you close the screen on the envy does it go to sleep and wake up right away like with the macbook pro or do you have to sign in again and stuff? Thanks.HP Envy 14 or Macbook Pro 13"?
If that's the only reason you want an Envy, then you need to look more into the specs...

All of those settings can simply be changed within the computer, whether it's a Mac or PC, you can choose whether you will need to enter a Password upon Computer Wake-up.

    I will only say this.

Mac = Better quality, more reliable, better built.

PC = Lower quality, less reliable, cheaply built.

Another person said that the Envy was more upgradeable... Well, if that person had noticed this was a Laptop... Then they would realize that a Macbook Pro is just as upgradeable as the Envy. Either way, you can only upgrade the Hard Drive and RAM if anything in both Laptops...

You will probably see better specs for the same price with the Envy, but, the Mac will last longer. Just because Apple doesn't use cheap, low quality parts.

    Hope I helped!
The screen: some one may complain this laptop never comes with radiance display anymore. Actually, the bright view screen is great, and it's even brighter and has more vibrate color than my wife's macbook pro.

The touchpad: This sandy bridge refresh version has a nearly as good as macbook touchpad. Multigesture, two finger scroll and pinch zoom all work smoothly. Just remember don't update the synaptics drive. New driver doesn't support double-tab to turn off touchpad feature.HP Envy 14 or Macbook Pro 13"?
Yes, the Envy is capable of doing that. You just have to change it in your settings under Power%26gt;Change what closing the lid does. Trust me, I have the Envy 17 and I have never had a problem with it yet. They also have the ProtectSmart Covers on the underside that lock the Hard Drive in other internal components in place, in case you drop it.

The Envy also has all kinds of HP Exclusive software, a built in webcam, and a special Dock that resembles the one on the MacBook for easy app finding. Also, HP's Support is A lot better and faster than Apple's (Yet another personal experience from when I had to contact them about my Nephew's Warranty) they help you as easily as they can, and explain everything out to you.

Also, if you get the HP you get 1-3 months of Norton Antivirus Free. Along with being more durable, the Envy (in my opinion) has a lot more to offer because it has a better processor than the MacBook '13, it also has Beats Audio, which easily outmatches Apple's sound system.

Bottom Line: I think the Envy is the right choice for you, and that it also outmatches the Apple MacBook 13 any day.

Hope this helps influence your decision!
Dude go for Macbook Pro. It has a faster processor, long lasting battery, higher resolution, awesome video quality, video editing and many other extra features. Hp envy is amazing for music making but when it comes to Mac, everybody prefers Mac over pcs. No other machine can give you the ultra sophistication than a Macbook Pro.

HP Envy 14 or HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition - For Architecture Student?

I think I've narrowed my selection down to these two, was wondering if anybody had any recommendations on either. I will be running a lot of Adobe Creative Suite programs, as well as Autodesk programs (CAD/REVIT/3DSMAX). Of course I will be sure the best add-ons are put on this machine, but I wanted some opinions on either machine. Thanks in advance.

HP Envy 14 is better built. I don't know about the dv6t, but it doesn't as as good a graphics card, although the processor is slightly better. The Envy 14 is more expensive, but you really pay for the quality. It also has better battery life.

If your willing to pay more for the Envy 14, I'd easily recommend it. If you want something cheaper, go for the dv6t. The Envy 14 is definitely better.HP Envy 14 or HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition - For Architecture Student?

HP Envy 14 or Dell XPS 15?

So, after 3 years, my xps M1330 has decided it is time to retire. Multiple small problems that can be worked through but would cost too much to justify fixing it.

So I am looking to buy a new laptop. I love what the XPS 15 offers in terms of just raw power for the low price. However, from what I have seen in pictures and videos, the thing just looks really fat and clunky. My XPS M1330 has a slimmer design and it is 3 years old.

The HP Envy is going to be refreshed in June to have Sandy Bridge processors, USB 3.0 and a better trackpad. All things the XPS already has. I really like the way they look as well. Not a huge fan of the flowery pattern on it but it is interesting.

The HP envy has a 1GB ATI GPU while the XPS has a 2GB NVIDIA GPU. The XPS display is also superior to the Envy as far as resolution goes.

The Envy would be about $100-$200 cheaper.

Both laptops are powerful but the XPS is definitely superior in terms of power. But the Envy just looks SO much better and is cheaper.

Is the XPS less chunky than it appears on camera? I don't want to go with the envy because I thought the XPS is chunky without actually ever seeing it. Right now I am leaning towards the Envy as it is cheaper, is a powerful laptop and, and I like the way it looks. I can afford both of them but price is a factor (college student).HP Envy 14 or Dell XPS 15?
There is a big difference in the screen size for the 14" Envy will not have full HD. With the 2GB NVIDIA GPU, you'll have better gaming experience from the XPS.

For gamers, make sure the GRAPHICS CARD on the laptop IS ONLY from the HIGH END or MIDRANGE:

    click the link: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Grap鈥?/a>

Also, if you are ordering from www.DELL.com, I would suggest you get the 4-YEAR ADVANCED PLAN if it is an available option (1-4years). So that you don't need to worry about anything %26amp; you wont feel bad if an accident happens to your laptop that you got for more than $1200.

This will ensure that if something really REALLY bad accidentally happens to the laptop with-in that period of coverage, which cannot be repaired, then DELL will replace your laptop with a brand new one.

In this business, DELL has the best deal for laptop coverage.

DON'T get the phone support service, for it would just be a waste of money.

Playing for long hours? Get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is, you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation. When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, then use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for $15, 48% cheaper than the regular $25 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).

    click to buy: http://www.microcenter.com/single_produc鈥?/a>

    Additional info, read on:

I used to work for a big name computer company %26amp; usually received a lot of call regarding battery issues.

A brand new computer's battery comes w/ a Standard 1yr Limited Warranty w/c means the expected life time of battery is only 1 year. Same thing goes for the charger.

So, if you don't know how to take care of it, it will die out on you sooner than than expected.

FYI: I always tell my customers, a laptop's battery is similar to a cell phone's. You charge it when it's depleted %26amp; you unplug the adapter when it is already fully charge (this will prevent the battery from getting overcharged %26amp; extend the life of the battery). So for less hassle, I always advice my customers to just remove the battery if they plan to use the computer for long hours straight (more than 1 hour) and just run it on AC power alone so as not to overcharge it %26amp; shorten the battery life.

ONLY USE THE BATTERY FOR PORTABILITY, if you're on a trip, at McDonalds or Starbucks.

If your not after its portability, use it plugged into the wall socket all the time.

For chargers, make sure you don't stretch out the cable too much that the one by the power jack that you plug into the side of the computer gets bent. Make sure this part is always straight or else the copper wires inside will break %26amp; you'll have the problem of the charger not working anymore like what happened to some of my callers.HP Envy 14 or Dell XPS 15?
    Off-tropic

Is this a fact that you know?

I've been look at the Envy 14" for quite a while now, and I'm really close to buy on of them - but if there will be som newer models in the next month, I'll think I'll wait a bit longer.

OT: I would personally go with the Envy - I do think HP is far better the Dell - especially the design of the Envy

HP ENVY 14 Beats... or MacBook Pro 15" ?

I am getting a new computer. I will be using it for gaming, movies, editing (pictures, videos), internet browsing, etc. I really like both computer and can't decide. The HP IMO looks nicer, but can't run Mac OS X easily, while the Mac can run both Windows and OS X (obviously) easily.

For the HP I would get the following Specs: (Was in the Bad Romance Video)

    Intel Core-i5

    6GB RAM

    1GB (1024MB) ATI Graphics Card

    14.5" BrightView HP LED Screen

    Beats Audio

MacBook Pro: (GaGa uses on stage, and in studio)

    15" Anti-Glare screen

    1GB ATI 5670 Graphics Card

    4GB RAM

    It's easy...

The HP "Brightview" is a annoying glossy display with reflections.

The MacBook Pro anti-glare is clearly superior and can be used in nearly all environments without reflections, glare, eyestrain and headaches. (also choose the high res screen)

The 15" MacBook Pro has a i7 QUAD CORE processor, which the 2.3ghz (select when you buy 2.2 Ghz) is the fastest Mobile Sandy Bridge processors available.

    http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.ht鈥?/a>

The HP is a only a dual core i5

The MacBook Pro 2.2 and 2.3 have a AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.

I have this card, and I can tell you it will play:

    WOW - full settings - +60 fps

    Half Life 2 - full settings - +90fps

    Cube2 - full settings - stuck mas 200fps

It will even play Cube 2 at over 100 fps while running Windows XP in a virtual machine under OS X.

Your HP has no specs on the name or model of video card for comparison. Do that yourself.

    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_li鈥?/a>

Finally on the Mac you can run Windows or OS X.

OS X is clearly superior and doesn't get malware.
